DaJuan Porter killed an elderly Lehigh County woman, said police, adding that he did it to intimidate witnesses.
Porter, 29, was charged Tuesday with murder in the stabbing death of Joyce Roth
inside a home in Derry Twp., Dauphin Co., on June 10.
Roth's visit to the Hershey area was supposed to be a celebration. She traveled from her home in South Whitehall Township to attend her great-granddaughter's graduation. Instead, police said Roth, 87, was stabbed in the chest with a kitchen knife.
"We are joined with the Derry Township Police Department to announce the arrest of DaJuan Porter, age 29," said Dauphin County District Attorney Edward Marsico.
Porter broke into the house, stole wallets and purses, and killed Roth, police said. His alleged crime spree, however, didn't stop there.
"On the same night, police allege that in Lower Paxton Township, Mr. Porter committed an arson," said Marsico.
The story doesn't start there either, police said.
"He was facing several counts of involuntary deviant sexual intercourse that was scheduled for trial last Monday, the morning of the murder."
The district attorney said one of Porter's victims is related to Roth and used to live at the home where she was killed. Another of his alleged victims lived at the house where the arson was.
"We're confident that he went there with the intent to intimidate the victim of that crime," said Marsico.
Porter was actually arrested the day after the homicide on an additional charge of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse. He's been jailed since, and he can now add murder, burglary, arson, intimidation and retaliation charges to the list that he faces.
Porter is being held on $1 million bail.
