One local county has seized close to $80,000 from drug dealers this year.

Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli says $77,226 in cash was confiscated from drug dealers and another $2,605 was earned from the sale of 2 vehicles seized from drug dealers.

The District Attorney's Office is allowed to seize money, automobiles, real estate and other property that is used in the drug trade.  They can also seize property that was bought with profit from illegal drug sales.

The money is used to purchase equipment for police, fund training and funds undercover drug purchases.  Some is also given to local police departments, block watch groups and helps pay the salary of a prosecutor in the DA's office.

Since the program's inception, it's seized approximately $1.7 million.
