The Nazareth Area School District will see changes in its 2014-15 academic year calendar.
The school board unanimously approved changes to the calendar at the April 28 meeting.
In the new year, October 13 and November 11 will be in-service days. The elementary school conferences have been extended by one day in November and in the spring.
A school day has been added the Monday after Thanksgiving.
January 19 and February 16 will be make-up days if needed in the event of inclement weather.
The Friday before Memorial Day will be used as a make-up day and June 4 will be the last day of classes for students.
"We would advise all of our staff of the calendar and to be very careful of the make-up days," said Superintendent Dr. Dennis Riker.
Riker said the approved calendar aligns with other area school districts such as Easton.
In other business, Riker thanked the audit finance committee for its work on the 2014-15 budget.
The proposed $73,865,000 budget is a 3.5 percent increase over the current year's budget.
The budget includes an increase in real estate taxes of 1.13 mills, or 2.3 percent, which is within the Act 1 of 2006 index.
"A lot of work went into the budget," Riker said.
Also, prior to the meeting the Nazareth Area High School Percussion Ensemble performed in the gymnasium for the school board.
High school Principal Alan Davis congratulated the percussion members on finishing first in the April 26 competition at Parkland High School.
Davis said he tries to bring a high school group to a board meeting for the board to view and learn about.
In addition, district students were recognized for their recent work on the STEM Design Challenge.
Sixth grade students Anna Pafi, Ava Murphy, Brenna Fassett and Alli Herald will be competing at a state competition May 3 in Harrisburg.
The board also recognized Nazareth Area High School wrestling coach, Dave Crowell, for being inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
