A bookkeeper stole almost $14,000 from a business management consulting firm and two other companies using forged checks in April and May, officials said.
Wendy D. Cruz admitted to forging her employer's signature on several checks worth a total of $13,754.95 in April and May, and cashing them at a check cashing business in Mount Pocono, Monroe Co., officials said.
Cruz kept the books for Production Systems Consulting, Inc., 111 East 3rd St., Bethlehem, and two other businesses run by Production Systems' owner, East Third Street L.P. and Shale Road L.P., officials said.
Maina Pawar, Production Systems' owner, told police Thursday that Cruz forged her signature after writing the checks to herself, and when police interviewed Cruz, she confessed, saying, "I did it. I took the money," officials said.
Cruz, 46, of 607 Sullivan Trail, Long Pond, Monroe Co., was arraigned on charges of forgery, theft and access device fraud and released on $15,000 unsecured bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. June 21,
