If you're spending time in Downtown Bethlehem this weekend, you may see more police officers patrolling the area.
The city of Bethlehem announced Wednesday that beginning Friday and continuing throughout the summer, there will be extra patrols on Main Street every evening from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
On foot, bicycle and horseback, these officers will focus on traffic, parking and general safety issues.
The officers will be speaking with local shop owners and managers to prevent and deter any potential issues or incidents.
These extra officers will not replace the daily beat officers, who will continue to work both sides of the river, according to Bethlehem Police.
If the expanded initiative goes well, Bethlehem Chief of Police Mark DiLuzio says it could stay in place until early October.
