Reading and hard work certainly paid big dividends for one Bethlehem student.
Jesus Pantoja received a check and plaque Thursday at Marvine Elementary School.
He was just one of 10 students picked from across the country for this award, from Scholastic publishing company.
The fifth grader is originally from Puerto Rico and as a native Spanish-speaker, had trouble reading and writing in English.
How did he overcome that obstacle?
"By working hard and trying to do my best and not fool around and listening to the teachers too," Pantoja said.
Along with his prize money and plaque for being the 2014 Scholastic All-Star Award winner, Pantoja also received the Harry Potter series of books.
He says he'll tackle those this summer.
