A man pulled a handgun and fired it into the air three times in a parking lot with a woman and their two toddlers nearby.

Jateek O. Santiago fired his V. Bernardelli .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun into the air while arguing with a woman in a parking lot at 1265 Livingston St., Bethlehem, around 1:25 a.m. Sunday, officials said, adding that Santiago and the woman's two toddlers also were present.

An eyewitness told police one of the toddlers in a stroller was knocked over during the altercation between Santiago and the woman, officials said.

After the gunfire, Santiago, the woman and the toddlers went into their home in the 1400 block of Livingston Street, and police surrounded the residence after Santiago refused to stay outside.

Bethlehem's Emergency Response Team entered the home and found the handgun as well as a digital scale in a bedroom. After Santiago was arrested, both of his hands tested positive for gunshot residue, officials said.

Santiago, who had glassy eyes, slurred speech and an unsteady gait, also tested positive for alcohol, officials said, adding he had a Protection From Abuse order out of New York against him.

Santiago, 18, was arraigned on charges of illegally possessing a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, illegally discharging a firearm, public drunkenness, illegal alcohol possession and possession of drug paraphernalia and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $50,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 3.
