A sagging roof caused by heavy snow accumulations resulted in employees being sent home on Saturday at Amazon.com's Upper Macungie Township facility.
Shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday, Amazon issued the following statement: "Out of an abundance of caution, we have closed the building for the day."
Shortly after 9 a.m., 69 News received multiple reports by phone and email from employees who said part of the facility's roof was in danger of collapsing.
Amazon officials stress the roof was never in danger of collapsing, and noted the closing of the building was done as a proactive safety measure.
Amazon says a third-party structural engineer confirmed on Saturday that "there are no issues with the roof."
A 69 News crew responded to the scene following the reports about the roof's condition from employees.
The crew saw police respond to the facility. Police said they assisted with traffic control while the employees left.
