A 47-year-old Allentown School District teacher died in a motorcycle accident early Wednesday evening in Lower Macungie Township.
Gregory Tyson, who taught kindergarten at Roosevelt Elementary School, was pronounced dead at 6:29 p.m. Wednesday in Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury Township, where he was taken after the accident.
The accident occurred at 5:49 p.m. in front of 6272 Mountain Road in the township, just south of the borough of Macungie.
Tyson's motorcycle collided with a Chevy Equinox driven by Brooke F. Young, 70, of Macungie.
Tyson was traveling south on Mountain Road approaching a bend and Young was coming north when Tyson crossed into the northbound lane and struck Young's vehicle.
Young had attempted to avoid Tyson by even going partially off the roadway, according to police.
Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim ruled the death was accidental, caused by multiple blunt force injuries.
The coroner's office and Pennsylvania state police are investigating the accident.
Tyson lived in the village of Breinigsville in Upper Macungie Township.
Counselors were available at Roosevelt on Thursday to help children deal with the loss of their teacher. Those counselors were expected to return to the school Monday.
