Woman charged with killing infant, 10 years later

An Alabama woman is facing homicide charges in the death of her baby in Allentown nearly 10 years ago.

Wendi Leanne Stanford, 30, was arrested Monday in Florence, Ala.

Two-month-old Christopher Harbin died at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury Twp., Lehigh Co., on Nov. 11, 2003, two days after Stanford called 911 from a home at 320 E. Walnut St. in Allentown to report he was unresponsive. An autopsy determined the baby died from a skull fracture.

At the time of the baby's death, Stanford, known then as Wendi Harbin, lived in the residence with the baby's father and grandfather, according to court documents.

The men said they were asleep before the baby became unresponsive, court documents show, and detectives determine Stanford was alone with her son for several hours on the evening of Nov. 9., 2003.

During the investigation, Stanford moved to Florence, Ala.

District Attorney Jim Martin said in 2003 and 2004 that the case could not be proved beyond a reasonable doubt, and in April 2013 the case was reviewed. Detectives then traveled to Alabama to re-interview the parties involved.
