PALMER TWP., Pa. -

A woman arrested Tuesday for stealing food from a supermarket is also facing charges for shoplifting from a department store four months ago, officials said.

Nicole M. Sestak was caught trying to leave the Giant at 801 South 25th St., Palmer Twp., Northampton Co., with $174.91 in groceries that she had put into her handbag, officials said.

Sestak, 30, of 119 Parker Ave., Easton, was arraigned on a retail theft charge and committed to Northampton County Prison on $5,000 bail, court papers show.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9:45 a.m. Nov. 13.

Sestak was also arraigned on a second retail theft charge involving $946 in merchandise taken on July 13 from the Bon-Ton in the Palmer Park Mall in Palmer Twp., officials said.

Sestak fled when security tried to stop her from leaving the store, after she was seen stuffing jewelry, perfume, clothing and purses inside a large handbag, officials said.

About half of the merchandise was recovered before Sestak took off in her gold Honda sedan, they added.

Sestak's bail was set at $5,000 for the Bon-Ton incident, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. Nov. 13.
