The Wilson Democratic Association has been charged with hosting illegal gambling at its 16th and Spruce streets location.
The charge, filed by the state police, claims the association "possessed or operated gambling devices or paraphernalia or permitted gambling or lotteries, pool-selling and/or bookmaking on the licensed premises." The alleged violation occurred on Sept. 12, state police said today in a release.
The charges will be brought before an administrative law judge who has the authority to impose penalties ranging from $50 for minor offenses to $5,000 for more serious offenses, the state police said.
The judge also has the authority to suspend or revoke the association's license based on the severity of the charge.
The judge can mandate training for the association on the requirements of being a licensee.
In a separate matter, the Order of the Fleas in Easton faces new gambling charges.
According to the state police, the order on various dates "possessed or operated gambling devices or paraphernalia or permitted gambling or lotteries, pool-selling and/or bookmaking on the licensed premises."
The order is also charged with improperly admitting members and failing to properly maintain records in conformity with state law.
The order faces fines up of up to $5,000 and possible suspension or revocation of its license.
