A longtime Lehigh Valley attorney has passed away.
Family members told 69 News that Jay Scherline passed away at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia Monday. Lorrie Scherline, Jay's wife, said Jay had been ill for some time.
Lorrie said Jay started Scherline & Associates in 1980. He had practiced law in Philadelphia prior to that.
Jay Scherline had been named one of Newsweek Magazine's top trial lawyers in the country, according to the biography posted on his firm's website. The National Trial Lawyers Association named him one of Pennsylvania's Top 100 Trial Lawyers, the biography says.
Mark Crossley, an attorney with Scherline and Associates, told 69 News, "The office will continue to move forward. There will be no disruption in any cases. The firm will continue the exemplary service to the people they represent."
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Congregation Sons of Israel on Tilghman Street in Allentown.
Scherline's family requests in lieu of flowers, donations should be made to charity, in Scherline's memory.
In addition to Lorrie, Scherline is survived by two sons.
