Buying your first home can be an exciting yet confusing time. Luckily there are groups here in the Lehigh Valley to help you through the process.
Seven times a year the Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley hosts first time home buyer seminars to educate folks about home ownership.
"We have local banks, agents, realtors that come and speak about home ownership to first time home buyers," explained Housing Counselor Amy Arroyo.
Saturday the seminar was completely in Spanish. Together Lehigh and Northampton Counties are home to more than 96,000 Hispanics. They make up a growing portion of nearly every community in the region.
"I'm trying to buy a house," shared Dionicio Severino.
The seminar is helping Severino and his wife move forward with their lives.
"Hopefully I'll learn how to keep my money and try to get out of debt so I can buy a house, and pretty much they're going to teach me how to manage everything," he said.
And that's the goal. To prepare and educate first time buyers in the valley so they know what to expect.
"To gain knowledge, to get more information and to give them all the materials and tools that they need," shared Arroyo.
The next Spanish seminar will be in June in Allentown. CACLV is hosting an English event in Bethlehem in May.
