WILSON, Pa. -

A man gave his girlfriend a bloody nose by hitting her with a half-gallon of ice cream during a quarrel in a supermarket parking lot, officials said.

Robert A. Dixon hit his girlfriend with the ice cream container when an argument over their cell phone turned physical outside the Bottom Dollar at 2431 Butler St., Wilson, Northampton Co., at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, officials said.

During the altercation, Dixon took the groceries that he and his girlfriend had just bought as well as their cell phone, officials said, adding that Dixon shoved the victim, pulled her hair and gave her a cut on her nose by hitting her with the container.

Dixon, 52, of 2300 block of Gruver Avenue in Palmer Twp., Northampton Co., was arraigned early Thursday morning on assault and harassment charges and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $8,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 11 a.m. March 18.
