BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

A U-Haul employee stole more than $2,000 in cash from propane sales and false refunds, officials said.

Marc A. Castro admitted on Thursday to pocketing $1,242.55 in propane sales and $823.60 in false refunds during October and November from the U-Haul store at 1415 Stefko Boulevard, Bethlehem, officials said.

Castro made it look as if the propane he sold was dispensed on another employee's shift, officials said.

Castro propped open a door to obscure a surveillance camera when he created the fictitious refund receipts for store products, officials said.

Castro, 22, of 252 East Ludlow St., Summit Hill, Carbon Co., was arraigned late Thursday afternoon on charges of forgery, theft, tampering with records and theft by deception and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $4,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Dec. 11.
