A man and a woman were arrested after police found them standing on Interstate 78 in Northampton County next to an SUV stolen in Massachusetts, officials said.

Richard A. Card and Jamie L. Primus were taken into custody at about 4:45 p.m. Thursday standing next to a green 2007 Ford Escape parked on the shoulder of I-78 West in Williams Township, officials said.

After a registration check on the vehicle, police discovered the SUV was taken during a break-in of a house in Beverly, Mass., about 25 miles northeast of Boston, officials said.

The Escape, valued at $10,000, was reported stolen on Thursday, they added.

Card, 25, and Primus, 24, both of Lynn, Mass., were each arraigned on a charge of receiving stolen property and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $50,000 bail, according to court documents.

Primus was also charged with giving false identification because she initially told police her name was Sarah Carter and that she was born on July 18, 1986, court papers show.

A preliminary hearing for both Card and Primus is set for 9 a.m. Jan. 7.
