WILSON, Pa. -

An Easton man's freedom was short-lived after officials said he punched a police officer who was releasing him from a holding cell.

Damon Parker was being held at the Wilson police headquarters in Northampton County after he was arrested for public drunkeness, police said.

When it was time for Parker to be released, police said he became combative and punched an officer.

Parker, 50, was charged with assault and resisting arrest and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $50,000 bail.

The officer who was punched is expected to be off-duty for several days, police said.
