A local professor is setting the curve for his work in the classroom.

A Northampton Community College professor has been named the Pennsylvania Professor of the Year.

John K. Leiser, associate professor of biology, was given the award by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

This is the second time in three years he has won the award.

Leiser focuses his teaching and research on wildlife biology, behavioral ecology and fish biology. He often recruits his students to help with his research and other projects.

He began teaching at NCC in 2002.

Leiser also received the Northampton Community College Christensen Award for Excellence in Teaching and the U.S. Secretary of the Interior’s Partners in Conservation Award in 2010.
