A man who shoplifted two vacuum cleaners from a department store made his getaway in a car driven by a woman with a child in the back seat, officials said.
Scott A. Folmer took two Dyson vacuum cleaners worth a total of $958 from a shelf at the Walmart store at 37722 Easton-Nazareth Highway, Lower Nazareth Twp., Northampton Co., at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday and left without paying, officials said.
Folmer returned and took a third vacuum, but left it in a cart in the store, officials said, adding that Folmer was followed by store security to a nearby Applebee's restaurant, where he was driven away in a gold Honda Civic by a woman with a child in the back seat.
The car was located about three hours later in the 800 block of South 5th Street in Easton, with Star Richardson driving it, officials said.
Richardson admitted to driving Folmer from the Walmart, and police picked up Folmer at his home on Sycamore St., Wilson, Northampton Co., just before 8 p.m.
Folmer, 43, was arraigned on charges of retail theft and receiving stolen property and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $5,000 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. April 9.
