A man wanted for armed robbery in Newark, N.J., is now facing a drug charge in Northampton County after a traffic stop, officials said.

Davon D. McDaniels was seen dropping two wax paper packets of heroin on the floor while sitting in the back seat of an Oldsmobile that had been stopped in the 1000 block of Northampton Street in Easton at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday, officials said.

The car was stopped because the driver, Ashley Werkheiser, didn't signal when she turned from South 12th Street on to Northampton, officials said, adding that Werkheiser informed police that there was marijuana, a marijuana pipe and a syringe in the car.

McDaniels first told police his name was Rakim Smith, but then came clean, saying, "You already got me. My real name is Davon McDaniels."

After a search, three bundles of heroin -- a total of 30 packets -- were found in McDaniels' pants pockets, along with two cell phones and
$561 in cash, officials said.

McDaniels, 22, of 38 Leslie St., Easton, was arraigned on charges of drug possession and giving false identification to police, and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $75,000 bail, according to court papers.

A preliminary hearing is set for 11 a.m. March 29.

Police also discovered McDaniels was wanted on a warrant for pointing a handgun at a woman in Newark, N.J., on Feb. 18 and robbing her of her wallet, officials said.

McDaniels will be held in Northampton County Prison until he can be extradited to New Jersey.
