BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

A man screaming "Call the police!" rampaged through two homes after forcing his way in, and wielding a meat cleaver, confronted a person taking a shower.

James Toy knocked on the door of 721 Broadway, Bethlehem, and pushed past Al Mease at 10:25 p.m. Wednesday, officials said.

Toy ripped a shelf off the wall before Mease fought with Toy and forced him out of the home, officials said, adding that Mease did not know Toy.

Ten minutes later, Toy smashed the front window of a home at 518 Fiot St., forced his way inside, leaving a trail of broken glass on the porch and hallway and blood on the kitchen floor and refrigerator as he made his way to second floor, officials said.

Toy started pounding on the door of the bathroom, where Jiamjin Connell was taking a shower, and when she opened the door she saw Toy standing there covered in blood, holding a meat cleaver and shouting,"Call the police!" officials said.

Connell told police she "trembled with fear," but was able to push her way past Toy, lock herself in a third-floor bedroom with one of her roommates, Rachen Sungpetch, and call another roommate, Don Pumpo, to warn him, officials said.

Pumpo called police, who eventually coaxed Toy out of the locked bathroom and got him to drop the cleaver, officials said.

Toy, 54, of 643 Alaska St., Bethlehem, was arraigned on charges of criminal trespass and criminal mischief and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $20,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. April 25.
