A man who was picked up for public drunkenness got into more trouble for spitting at a police officer and a fellow prisoner, officials said.
John J. Marcikonis was found passed out under the tail pipe of an SUV with a nearly empty 40-ounce malt liquor bottle next to him at the rear of 9 East 3rd St., Bethlehem, around 5 p.m. Thursday, officials said.
After Marcikonis was awakened, a field test showed he had a blood alcohol content of .248, officials added.
During a search at police headquarters, Marcikonis spit at Ofc. Matthew Laxton, hitting him in the back and on the handcuff case on his duty belt, officials said, adding that Marcikonis later he spit on another prisoner, Tyler Deater, who was then moved to another cell.
Marcikonis, 37, of Bangor, was arraigned on charges of aggravated harassment and public drunkenness and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $5,000 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9:45 a.m. March 8.
