Prosecutors will seek the death penalty for a man accused of killing an elderly woman and her daughter.
Brandin Lee Kasick was arrested in Sarasota, Florida, Lehigh County District Attorney James Martin announced Monday morning.
Kasick was arrested in connection with the killings of Althea and Jeanette Walbert.
Althea, and her mentally disabled daughter, Jeanette, were found dead inside their home on Cobblestone Court in Alburtis on March 11, 2011.
It was the first recorded homicides in the small Lehigh County borough, and it left the community shaken.
Officials said Kasick knew the Walberts because he had done work for them in past. The two were last seen alive on March 8, and were killed sometime between then and when their bodies were found on March 11, Martin said.
He said Althea was known to carry a large amount of cash, and there is strong evidence that shows robbery was the motive in the killings, as her purse was not seen at the home after the killings.
Martin also said the victims were killed by "sharp force trauma to the neck."
Kasick has been charged with two counts of criminal homicide, and one count each of robbery, burglary and theft. Martin said he will seek the death penalty for Kasick.
