BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

A man arrested for allegedly knocking down a woman he knew had rods and screws in her back is also facing drug charges, officials said.

Benjamin P. Cole was taken into custody after police found Alice Parry sitting on a hardwood kitchen floor crying uncontrollably in their home at 262 Goepp St., Bethlehem, at about 11:45 p.m. Thursday, officials said.

Parry said she had the rods and screws in her back because of several surgeries, and that Cole knew it, officials said.

While police were trying to help Parry get back on her feet, Cole admitted to police that he occasionally smoked marijuana after being asked about a multi-colored glass bowl on a night stand and a steel green pipe by a laptop computer, officials said.

Cole. 38, was arraigned early Friday morning on assault, harassment and drug paraphernalia possession charges and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $10,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 8.
