Luis Mendoza steals tires from parked car in Bethlehem, police say

One of three men who took a set of tires from a car parked on the street is facing charges, officials said.

Luis A. Mendoza was identified by a witness as one of a trio of men who jacked up a Toyota in the 700 block of Wood Street in Bethlehem, removed the driver's side wheels and left the car on concrete blocks at about 1:40 a.m. Saturday, said officials, adding that a jack and two concrete blocks were left on the passenger's side.

A juvenile who participated in the robbery also was identified by the witness, officials said.


The car's owner, Luis Collazo, 729 Wood St., said the stolen tires were worth $1,000 each, officials said.

Mendoza admitted at headquarters to taking the tires, said officials, adding that Mndoza was found with marijuana in a cigar wrapper when he was picked up.

Mendoza, 18, of 241 North Law St., Allentown, was arraigned on charges theft, receiving stolen property, conspiracy and drug possession and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $10,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Dec. 4.
