A local gospel singer is putting her pipes to work in Washington on Inauguration Day.

The Reverend Kari Holmes will sing the American, African and Black anthems for the first African Caribbean Diaspora Presidential Inaugural Ball.

Ball organizers offered the gig to Holmes after working with her through the Rising Sun Initiative.

The newly-formed program honored the contributions of local African-Americans during Lehigh County's bicentennial.

It also doesn't hurt that Holmes is part of the Holmes Family, the Lehigh Valley's "First Family of Gospel."

"Just to be a part of the initiative itself was, you know, very humbling in the first place," she said. "Then to be invited to sing to represent gospel music to represent the Holmes family, you know, right here from Lehigh Valley is an honor."

The ball won't feature an appearance from the president but it will feature an address from the White House.
