Joseph Savarino, banned from food store, caught shoplifting again, police say

A man who was banned from Giant food stores because of shoplifting is in trouble again for stealing, officials said.

Joseph A. Savarino was found in his car in the parking lot of the Giant at 301 Town Center Blvd., Forks Twp., Northampton Co., about at 7:10 p.m. on Sept.25 with $123.87 worth of unpaid merchandise, officials said.

The stolen items included 10 boxes of Steak 'Ums and three boxes of onion patties, they added.

Savarino, 46, of 655 Spring Garden St., Easton, has been convicted of shoplifting nine times, officials said.

He was arraigned Saturday morning on retail theft and trespassing charges and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $5,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Friday.
