Habitat for Humanity opens ReStore in Whitehall

After two years of planning, the Habitat For Humanity ReStore has opened in Whitehall Twp. It's the first one in the Lehigh Valley.
Shoppers packed the isles Saturday, trying to find a good deal.
"We came looking for a vanity with a sink," explained Billy Kirkpatrick.
They scoured the shelves and paid on plastic.
"I just actually popped in to see what it's like," shared Rebecca Miklas. "I thought it was pretty neat that they have something like this going."
Something like this is the Habitat For Humanity ReStore. It's the first one in the Lehigh Valley, and Saturday was the grand opening. It took the local organization two years to get to this point.
"I think people are really excited about this store," smiled Executive Director of Habitat For Humanity Lehigh Valley, Deb Cummins. "There's nothing like it in the Lehigh Valley; it really appeals to everybody."
Habitat for Humanity is in the business of making houses and giving people the opportunity to change them into homes. The new ReStore building will allow the organization to take its efforts into high gear.
"This store will help us to get very needed operating funds and home building funds to continue to grow our mission," added Cummins.
ReStore takes new or gently used goods donated by businesses and the public for home building, remodeling and refurbishing.
"You can find just about everything from appliances to plumbing to tiles to hardwood floors to lighting fixtures," said Kirkpatrick.
"I've seen furniture, chairs, a lot of tiles, kitchen ware, dining room," explained Miklas. "There's a little bit of everything here."
The store runs almost entirely on volunteers and you'll always be able to find a bargain.
The store is located at 1053 Grape Street, Whitehall Twp., in the former Circuit City building.
