MOORE TWP., Pa. -

A man grabbed his wife by the throat a second time just after she called 911 to report that he had choked her, officials said.

Frederick J. Spess told his wife she would be dead before police arrived as he began choking her again in their home on Lakeview Court in Hickory Hills mobile home park in Moore Twp., Northampton Co., at about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, officials said.

The victim was able to break free of Spess' choke hold by kicking and hitting him, officials said.

The victim told police the assault began when Spess shoved her on the porch of their home, followed her inside and started to choke her on their bed, officials said.

Spess, 57, was arraigned on charges of assault, reckless endangerment, making terroristic threats, harassment and domestic violence and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $15,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 11 a.m. March 15.
