The East Penn School Board briefly discussed the transportation issue surrounding Willow Lane Elementary School at their meeting on Monday night. However, the Board withdrew a request for a Willow Lane Transportation Committee from the agenda for the meeting.
According to Superintendent Thomas Seidenberger, the District will be measuring the distance from residences to the main entrance to Willow Lane Elementary School on Sauerkraut Lane in regards to safety concerns of parents. Seidenberger also informed the audience that the Township’s safety materials, including lights and crosswalks, will be in place by the beginning of next school year.
The Elementary School will be working on internal dismissal procedures as well as what procedures parents will need to abide by for dismissal.
The Transportation Committee that was withdrawn from the agenda would have been comprised of representatives from the administration, School Board, and Willow Lane parents. The purpose of this committee would be “to receive input and have dialogue with parents who will be affected by the possible pending change in transportation policy by the District.”
A similar resolution was presented at the February School Board meeting but was also withdrawn prior to final approval.
