Muretta death ruled suicide

EASTON, Pa. -

A man found beaten to death with a hammer inside his home last year committed suicide, Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli said Thursday.

Michael Muretta, 47, was found dead in the basement of his home on Morgan Hill Road in Williams Twp., Northampton Co., on Aug. 29, 2012. Investigators had treated his death as suspicious.

Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim determined the manner of death to be suicide after an investigation showed no indication that the injuries inflicted or death was caused by another person or outside source.

Muretta was part of a story on 69 News a few years ago because he and his wife Teresa were outspoken opponents of a landfill expansion plan.
