BREINIGSVILLE, Pa. -

Investigators say a Lehigh County woman stole thousands of dollars from a charity that was set up to help sick kids.

Charmaine McKelvey, of 8657 Breinigsville Road in Breinigsville, is facing theft by failure to make required disposition of funds, receiving stolen property and theft by unlawful taking.

Police say the 43-year-old woman was the president of the American Legion Riders Chapter # 16 and was the organizer of a motorcycle raffle to benefit the Race for Adam Foundation.

The foundation raises money for children battling Niemann-Pick Type C disease -- a neuromuscular degenerative disease.

The motorcycle raffle, called The Ride for Adam, netted $23,580, but investigators say McKelvey never awarded the grand prize, and never gave the money to the foundation.

Police determined that only four raffle winners received their prizes – $250 in cash, $100 in cash, $50 in cash and a $25 gift card that had been donated from Keystone Harley Davidson in Parryville.

The grand prize was a 2012 custom-painted Harley Davidson Switchback motorcycle, which has never been claimed or awarded.

Police and the Foundation attempted to identify the grand prize winner, whose name has not been released even though the Foundation has made repeated requests to McKelvey.

Five other winners also have not received their prizes in the total amount of $175 – three $25 gift cards for Keystone Harley Davidson and two cash prizes of $50 each.

According to police reports, the funds were obtained through a motorcycle raffle that was held on Aug. 25, 2012, at an annual event at the Schnecksville Community Fire Company in North Whitehall Twp.
