PALMER TWP., Pa. -

A man shoplifted almost $500 in health and beauty items from a food store during an eight-day stealing spree this month, officials said.

Brian K. Norton was caught with $163.50 worth of unpaid merchandise, including dental whitening strips, razors and shampoo, at about 8:45 p.m. Sunday at the Giant at 801 South 25th St., Palmer Twp., Northampton Co., officials said.

It was fourth time in eight days that Norton had stolen such items from the Giant, and was his biggest haul yet, officials said.

On April 17, Norton made off with three boxes of Crest Whitestrips, razors shampoo and other items worth a total of $141.97 in a plastic bag, the day after he stole $143.05 worth of similar items worth, and four days after he hid behind a female companion and stashed the same kind of items worth a total of $27.99 in his black coat, officials said.

After he was arrested, Norton was found to have two previous shoplifting convictions -- one on Aug. 19, 2011, and another three days later, officials said.

Norton, 46, of 501 Belmont St., Easton, was arraigned early Monday on four charges of retail theft and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $25,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. May 2.
