Authorities issue boil water advisory for parts of Lehigh County
Updated On: Oct 30 2012 10:16:00 AM CDT
Some customers of Lehigh County Authority will need to boil their water or get bottled water, according to water officials.
Due to power outages from Hurricane Sandy, the Lehigh County Authority experienced a system-wide loss of water pressure.
Customers in the following areas need to take precautions regarding their water:
• Clearview Farm Estates in Moore Township
• Beverly Hills in Lower Milford Township
• Mill Creek in Washington Township
• Heidelberg Heights in Heidelberg Township
• Mink Estates, Far View Farms, and Buss Acres in Upper Milford Township
There's no word about when power service will be restored, or when water service will be reinstated.
If you need drinking water, you may fill up water jugs at the Emmaus Fire Company on Sixth Street in Emmaus, or pick up gallon jugs of water and ice at the Kings Market in Schnecksville.
Officials said, because of this service outage, if you still have water now, or when your water comes back on, there is an increased chance that the water may contain disease-causing organisms, and you are advised to boil your water for one full minute prior to drinking or cooking with it, until further notice.
Lehigh County Authority will send a phone message to all customers when this problem has been corrected and the water is OK to drink without boiling.
At the least, the boil advisory will be in place until officials complete two days of testing to ensure no bacteria are present in the drinking water after service has been restored.
For more details about this public notification, please visit the Lehigh County Authority web site or call 610-398-1444.
