Alleged robbery puts damper on Easton Peace Candle ceremony

A woman was robbed following the annual Peace Candle lighting ceremony, police said.

EASTON, Pa. -

An alleged strong-arm robbery put a  damper on the annual Peace Candle lighting ceremony Friday night.

Police said 31-year-old Cynthia Marie Allen was arrested 7:20 p.m. after allegedly robbing a woman of her purse near North Bank and Northampton streets.

The 55-year-old victim had been attending the festivities at the annual Peace Candle lighting ceremony downtown, police said.

According to police, the victim was walking with her brother when Allen grabbed her purse and took off running. Allen ran about a half-block before being apprehended by nearby officers.

Allen was also found to be in possession of empty wax packets of heroin, according to police.

Allen is charged with robbery, theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was being held at Northampton County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.
