BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

A Bethlehem allegedly used various means to steal electricity from PPL, police say.

Court document show that Aaron Tannenbaum, 32, of 2853 Brandon Road, had his power turned off by PPL on July 30, 2012, due to a high bill balance and nonpayment.

In September, PPL workers found that Tannenbaum had opened a PPL lock on the electric meter and turned electricity back on without PPL's permission, police said.

PPL crews saw jumper cables coming from the meter that were hooked up to a car battery, so workers used a bucket truck to cut the electrical lines from the house to the utility pole, according to court documents.

In December, PPL officials determined that the total loss to PPL was around $733.

Tannenbaum was arraigned Wednesday morning and sent to Northampton County Prison on $5,000 bail.

He was charged with theft of services.
