Monday, rescue crews in Carbon County searched frantically for a missing boater in Beltzville Lake.

Rescuers sprung into action after an eyewitness spotted a boat going in circles early in the morning.

Crews searched all day long until bad weather forced them out of the water.

Repeated searches since then have failed to locate the boater.

Tuesday, the police chief of a Schuylkill County borough came under fire after posting online a string of profanity-laced videos in support of gun rights.

Gilberton Borough Police Chief Mark Kessler said he was exercising his constitutional rights, but some community members said he went too far.

The posting seemingly threatens Secretary of State John Kerry for a UN treaty on arms.

Many are calling for Kessler to be fired. So far no move had been made to remove him as police chief.

Wednesday, the end appeared near for a Lehigh County landmark.

Officials in South Whitehall Township heard plans to tear down the historic King George Inn and replace it with a bank, drug store and 100-room hotel.

The King George Inn has been standing since the 1750s.

The Inn had operated as restaurant for years. The owner said he was forced to close in 2012 after years of losing money.

Thursday, the battle over a proposed landfill expansion in Northampton County heated up.

The Lehigh Valley Planning Commission issued a recommendation to dump the plan.

While the commission's move does not carry any legal weight, opponents of the landfill expansion hope it will sway Lower Saucon Township officials to ultimately see things their way.

Friday, police said two men believed to be behind a string of robberies in the area were caught in Maryland.

Police said the men are accused of robbing several banks this month, including the Sovereign Bank in Kutztown and the Northwest Savings Bank in Myerstown, Lebanon County.
