A 300-pound man who fled from a jewelry store with two watches was run down by the store owner and his sister while making his getaway on foot, officials said.

Severin J. Johnson was forced to the ground by Rodger Krisukas, and Krisukas' sister took the two watches out of Johnson's hands, following a brief chase after Johnson stole the time pieces from Steckel's Jewelry Store, 5 Broadway, Bangor, Northampton Co., at about 3:30 p.m. April 25, officials said.

Johnson had asked to see the watches -- a Bulova valued at $425 and a Pulsar worth $100 -- then ran away after grabbing them off a counter when Krisukas turned his back, officials said.

Johnson, 30, of 36 South 1st St., Bangor, was arraigned late Tuesday night on a retail theft charge and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $5,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 11 a.m. May 17.
