Three men tried to break into a home after cutting a power line but were held at bay when the occupants kept them from opening the front door and a window, officials said.
Drew W. Evans, Kyle R. Evans and Paul R.Ortiz were caught in a tan Toyota Tacoma pickup truck soon after leaving fleeing a home at 1767 Rail Road Lane, Lower Saucon Twp., Northampton Co., at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, officials said.
Drew Evans, the pickup's driver, ran from the vehicle and police had to use a Taser before taking him into custody, officials said.
Police found several screwdrivers, a flat bar and pliers in the truck, officials said.
Before the three men tried to kick in the door of the door of the home and get in through a window, they destroyed a cable and telephone wire and a PPL power supply box, officials said, adding that one of the people inside the home recognized two of the would-be intruders as Drew and Kyle Evans
Drew Evans, 27, and Kyle Evans, 25, both of 1604 Knollwood Road, Lower Saucon Twp., and Ortiz, 23, of 849 Rockland St., Bethlehem, were all arraigned early Monday morning on charges of criminal attempt, criminal solicitation, criminal conspiracy, and criminal trespass.
Kyle and Drew Evans were also charged with possessing instruments of crime, according to court papers.
Drew Evans is facing additional charges of criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and fleeing police, court papers show.
Kyle and Drew Evan were each committed to the Northampton County Prison on $50,000 bail, while Ortiz was sent to prison on $25,000 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing for all three is set for 9 a.m. May 2.
