Two men pretended to be water company workers to get inside an elderly woman's home, police said.

The incident happened around 3 p.m. Friday in the 900 block of South 24th Street in Wilson, Northampton Co.

Police said an elderly woman said someone knocked on her front door, but she didn't answer it. A knock came at her side door and when she answered it, two men said he was with the water company and they needed to check her water because the entire neighborhood was having a problem.

The two men came into the house--one went into the bathroom and tried to have her come with him. She didn't leave the door area. The men were in the house for several minutes. She was not hurt.

The woman told police at first she didn't think anything was taken but realized the next day that an undetermined amount of money and some jewelry were missing from the bedroom.

The robber are described as possibly Hispanic, both with thin builds, in their late 20s. One was about 5 feet 6 inches tall and the other was taller. Both wore dark clothing.

Police warn the public that if someone from a utility comes to your home, they will have identification. If a situation seems suspicious, call the police.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call Det. Chris Meehan at 610-258-8542.
