1 killed in Route 100 accident in Upper Macungie

A man was killed after crashing his car into two tractor trailers in Lehigh County.

UPPER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. -

A Lehigh County man was killed in an accident on Route 100 Friday morning.

The accident happened around 10:45 a.m. on Route 100 South at Industrial Boulevard in Upper Macungie Twp., Lehigh Co.

Steven Winkler was driving north on Route 100 when his car crossed the cement median and struck two tractor trailers that were stopped for a red light, state police said.

Winkler, 23, of Macungie, was rushed to Lehigh Valley Hospital, where he later died, police said.

The drivers of the tractor trailer -- George Betz, 70, of Coopersburg, Lehigh Co., and John Taylor, 60, of Rome, N.Y. -- were not injured, police said.

Route 100 was closed for about an hour while police investigated the accident.
