A Michigan trucker was found with marijuana in the passenger compartment of his vehicle during a police inspection, officials said.

Donald E. Middleton was stopped in the 2600 block of Brodhead Road in Bethlehem Twp., Northampton Co., at about 8 a.m. Sunday for a federal motor carrier safety inspection when an officer smelled marijuana coming from the passenger compartment of Middleton's blue 2002 Kenworth truck tractor, officials said.

Police also saw several pieces of "shake" (marijuana flakes) on the floor board in front of the driver's seat, officials added.

Middleton discarded a small amount of marijuana and some drug paraphernalia when he was asked to step out of the vehicle, and Middle was found to have more marijuana on him when he was searched at headquarters, officials said.

Middleton, 42, of Shepherd, Mich., was arraigned on charges of drug and drug paraphernalia possession and operating a vehicle while possessing marijuana and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $2,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. May 30.
