A man who was caught shoplifting baby formula claimed he did it for his infant daughter, officials said.
Gabriel Garcia was stopped when he tried to walk out of the Walmart at 3926 Nazareth Pike, Bethlehem Township, Northampton Co., at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday with 10 cans of Gerber powdered baby formula hidden in a diaper bag, officials said.
The formula was worth $150.50, officials added.
Garcia told police he needed the formula for his 2-month-old daughter, officials said.
Garcia, 23, of 1765 South Idaho St., Allentown, was arraigned on a retail theft charge and was released on $10,000 unsecured bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 10 a.m. Aug. 2.
