$100,000 donation boosts program helping families rebuild

Superstorm Sandy blew through the Lehigh Valley almost seven weeks ago.
"As the wind picked up I began to hear a rattling," shared homeowner Pierre Morgan.
Thousands of homes suffered severe damage, and this one on Aaron Street in South Bethlehem wasn't spared.
"It took the siding off and it was blowing into the street," added Pierre. "I didn't know the impact on the inside, and I didn't realize the windows on the back was all blown out."
He also didn't realize he had roof damage, and water poured inside the house. The widower had no idea when, or if, he would be able to start making repairs. That's when Pierre found out about "Stand up to Sandy," a task force of local organizations who were helping folks in the Valley make repairs.
"In this first month we have received 70 requests for assistance," said effort coordinator Hal Black.
At a news conference Thursday the group announced a $100,000 donation to the effort by The Bosch Group. Bringing its bank account to $160,000.
To get help you just need to live in Lehigh and Northampton Counties, have damage from Sandy, and have a maximum household income that's double the poverty rate. That means, for example, a single resident must make $22,340 or less a year, the income for a household of two can't be more than $30,260, and for a family of three they need to earn $38,180 or less. The money can even be used to pay your insurance deductible.
The organizations involved in the task force say they just want to help people like Pierre get back on their feet.
"I'm so thankful," said Pierre. "That somebody is reaching out to me, as a man, it's really humbling."
If you think you qualify for "Stand up to Sandy" call the Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley at 610-691-5620 between 8AM and 5PM.
