Students help victims of brawl

KUTZTOWN, Pa. -

Kutztown University students are stepping up to help the victims of a Bloomsburg University fraternity fight that involved members of the KU football team.

Two weeks ago the brutal brawl was caught on camera.

A group of Kutztown University football players allegedly crashed a Bloomsburg frat party Feb. 23, sending two students to the hospital.

Kutztown Student Body President Nicholas Imbesi says his classmates are ashamed of what happened.

"They're angry because this is giving us all a very bad image, it's giving us all a very bad name for the stupid decision that these students made."

KU football players Justin Wieder and Angel Cruz have been charged in connection with the fight. Two other players have been suspended from the team.

"These actions do not reflect the morality and ethics of our entire student body," explained Imbesi.

Bloomsburg student Donald Hoover has been released from the hospital and is now recovering at home.

Freshman Jackie Lithgow remains in critical condition. A blog dedicated to his recovery says the 19-year-old has a major brain injury.

"On behalf of the whole Kutztown University student body, we are sorry that this happened. We are sorry," Imbesi shared.

Several groups on campus are now working to help the victims. Medical expenses are piling up, and KU students want to raise funds to offset the burden.

"There's all types of groups on campus coming together," said Imbesi. "And we're really trying to get the money available for the families."

Different events are currently in the works. So far several efforts on GoFundMe.com have raised nearly $50,000 dollars.

Currently there are several funds started to help both Jackie Lithgow and Donald Hoover.
