A man who police said played a role in a fight that led to the shooting of an innocent bystander in south Reading on Tuesday is now in custody.
Kevin Wood has been arrested on charges of aggravated and simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment.
RPD officers were dispatched around 3:30 p.m. to the 400 block of Printz Street on the city's south side for the report of a shooting.
The officers arrived to find two victims, one who was assaulted and another who was shot, according to court documents.
Witnesses told police that four men punched and kicked the assault victim in the head multiple times.
Someone then pulled out a gun and opened fire, hitting a woman in the arm, police said.
Both victims were rushed to Reading Hospital for treatment.
Wood was later apprehended several blocks from the scene, in the area of South 16th and Haak streets. He was committed to the Berks County Jail on $20,000.
