They were supposed to take care of a sick family member..
Instead they stole thousands of dollars and ended up killing the woman they were looking after.
John and Tina Tedesco are charged with third degree murder.
The couple were care-givers of John's aunt, Barbara Rabins, but police say Rabins died under their watch due to dehydration.
Pennsylvania State Police say the investigation has been ongoing since August 2011 when John Tedesco called 911 to report, 70-year-old Barbara Rabins, was not breathing.
The autopsy report of Rabins lists the cause of death as dehydration.
The report also notes that Rabins was wearing an adult diaper at the time and it was wet with urine, feces and blood.
“Would never have expected anything like that," said Pat Clifford, a neighbor that has known the couple for ten years. "And if the aunt was living there, I never knew it.”
Court documents show Rabins lived with the Tedesco's for 12 years.
Investigators searched the home on Corine Way and noted there were minimal personal items of Rabins' inside.
Officers also obtained search warrants for Rabins' medical records and financial documents.
Those records show that Barbara Rabins had a stroke in 2010, and the Tedescos were her care givers.
Court records note from 2010 until Barbara Rabins died, she lost 100 pounds.
But records show the couple removed the victim from medical care facilities twice because of the cost to care for her.
And in an interview with police, Tina Tedesco said if they left Rabins in the facility, the Tedescos would not get paid from Rabins' trust fund to care for the her.
The couple is now charged with neglect, theft, and murder.
“I wouldn't take them for that at all," added neighbor Melissa Stametz. "They just didn't seem like those type of people.”
The affidavit of probable cause shows John and Tina Tedesco received over $110,000 from the trust account of Barbara Rabins.
Money that was supposed to care for the elderly woman, but instead part of the money was used for a family vacation.
“They are lovely people I should say," added Clifford. "I am very shocked at this.”
John and Tina Tedesco are currently in the Monroe County Correctional Facility.
Both are being held without bail.
