Years after a major health scare, a legendary jazz musician is sharing the story of his journey to recovery.

Years after a major health scare, a legendary jazz musician is sharing the story of his journey to recovery.

Grammy Award-nominated jazz guitarist and Philadelphia native Pat Martino was at St. Luke's University Hospital on Thursday afternoon.

In the early 1980s, Martino suffered a near-fatal brain aneurysm that left him with no memory of the guitar.

After a successful surgery and a long recovery, he learned to play again, and he talked about that process Thursday.

"I think it brings us back to our childhood and the courage to follow our imagination and that's the very thing that brought me back to enjoying my favorite toy, which happens to be the guitar."

This wasn't Martino's only stop in the Lehigh Valley. He was set to perform at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks on Thursday night.
