BANGOR, Pa. -

A man assaulted his 14-year-old daughter after becoming angry when she came home late, officials said.

James B. Short picked up his daughter and threw her into a pantry after the girl telephoned her mom to come pick her up from Short's home in the 500 block of Church Street in Bangor, Northampton Co., around 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.

When the girl tried to leave her father's home, he slammed her with door, officials added.

The girl told police Short started yelling at her after she had come home late, and that she became ill at the thought that Short might physically abuse her as he had abused her sister in the past, officials said.

The girl's mother told police that when she arrived she heard her daughter screaming for her, and that her daughter was hysterical because she had seen Short physically abuse her sister and mother in the past, officials said.

Short, 43, was arraigned early Wednesday morning on assault and harassment charges and released on $10,000 unsecured bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. July 24.
